Background

Since Fall of 2018 I have been in the Department of Sociology at UCSB, in Santa Barbara, CA.

Formerly, I was an Assistant Professor of  Sociology  at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana with a joint appointment in the Department of Gender Studies.

From 2010 – 2012 I was a Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholar at Columbia University, in New York, NY where I worked with Peter Bearman, Bruce Link, Jo Phelan, and Julien Teitler.

I earned my PhD in the Department of Sociology at Cornell University, in Ithaca, NY in 2010. My doctoral committee at Cornell consisted of Shelley Correll (chair), Elaine Wethington, and Edward Lawler. At Cornell, I also earned a minor in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and worked in the Center for the Study of Inequality.

I earned an undergraduate degree in Economics from Smith College and an M.A. in Human Development. I graduated from South Medford High School in Medford, Oregon.

I grew up in beautiful Southern Oregon (Medford and Grants Pass) and have also lived in Northampton, MA; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Philadelphia, PA; New York and Ithaca, NY; Bloomington, IN, and Barcelona, Spain.
